Charlie’s Angels director McG is gearing up for the new action romantic comedy This Means War. The film is about two spy buddies who are fighting over the same girl. The combination of their feelings and skills culminates in them demolishing New York City. Bradley Cooper was originally set to star in the flick but dropped out. The official reason is it conflicts with the filming of The Hangover 2 but some are speculating that This Means War may be a bomb due to tons of rewrites.
The script was optioned back in 1998. Timothy Dowling (Role Models), Burr Steers (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) & Marcus Gautesen share screenwriting credit.
Recently there were rumors that Seth Rogen and Chris Pine were both vying for the lead. Many are now venturing to say that both Pine (in the lead) and Rogen may costar as the friends who are fighting over the girl, Lauren (played by Reese Witherspoon). An offer has been made to Pine but he hasn’t accepted it yet.
Seth Rogen and Reese Witherspoon have proven their chops with romantic comedies. Chris Pine recently showed that he could pull of an action role in Star Trek and McG is known for blending all three. Despite early hiccups this movie has the potential to be a hit.
